Echiomega is a vegetarian formulation of omega fatty acids, which delivers superior health benefits over the commonly available vegetarian oil preparations. Containing the omega-3 fatty acid stearidonic acid (SDA) from the plant echium plantagineum, it is naturally converted to the important long-chain omega-3 fatty acid EPA in the body, but up to five times more than other botanical omega-3 oils. Echium seed oil also contains other beneficial fatty acids including the potent anti-inflammatory omega-6 gamma linolenic acid (GLA) as well as the omega-9 oleic acid, for which olive oil owes its health-supporting properties. Research suggests that SDA in combination with GLA has a synergistic effect in raising blood cell EPA levels more effectively than SDA alone. This unique combination of natural fatty acids provides cells with the nutrients required for efficient chemical signalling, integral to healthy brain function and the maintenance of overall well-being. Echium oil is the ideal nutritional supplement for those who are vegetarian, vegan or allergic to fish, to help boost the levels of the important omega fats in the diet.

Directions

  • Adults and children above 12 years should take between 2 and 4 capsules daily, not exceeding 10 in any 24-hour period.
  • Children below 12 years should take 1 or 2 capsules daily, not exceeding 4 in any 24-hour period

Echiomega should preferably be taken with food. It may take up to 3 months for the fatty acids in Echiomega to reach the optimum levels in the body, before the full beneficial effects become apparent. Results may be quicker if one’s diet is healthy and balanced.

Indications

SDA is the precursor to EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), with SDA producing up to 5 times more EPA than other vegetarian omega-3 oils. EPA plays an integral role in the proper functioning and structure of the brain. EPA may improve the cardiovascular system by reducing the stickiness of platelets in the blood and by lowering blood pressure. It is also converted into prostaglandins (hormone-like substances which control many bodily functions) and leukotrienes (important for the correct functioning of the immune system) which regulate inflammation and pain, and also help to maintain healthy joints. The omega-6 fatty acid gamma linolenic acid (GLA) is vital for the structure of the brain it ensures that cell membranes are permeable, thus contributing to efficient brain function. GLA is the precursor to dihomo gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA) which is converted into prostaglandins which regulate inflammation, pain, blood clotting and fluid balance. Oleic acid, usually associated with the ‘Mediterranean diet’ has been shown to slow the development of heart disease by lowering total cholesterol level and raising levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL or ‘good’ cholesterol), whilst lowering low-density lipoproteins (LDL or ‘bad’ cholesterol).

Warnings

It is not advisable to exceed the above dose unless recommended by a doctor for a specific condition. If you are taking any medication, consult your doctor before starting to take Echiomega. Do not take Echiomega if you are already taking medication to thin the blood without prior medical advice (Echiomega has blood-thinning properties which, ordinarily, is a desirable effect for the circulatory system, but is not compatible with drugs such as warfarin or heparin injections). Pregnant women should consult their GP before taking any supplement. If in any doubt always seek professional medical advice. This product should not be used as a substitute for a balanced diet.
